The UT Tube67 is a United’s faithful homage to one of the most in-demand mic designs of all time. The original classics have shaped the sound of countless classic recordings since their debut 1960; renowned for velvety, creamy, full-bodied tone.
The UT Tube67’s smooth top end makes it an outstanding choice for vocals, imparting a warm, intimate quality that can only be delivered by its 1960s NOS EF86 pentode vacuum tube. Linear response across polar patterns ensures versatility, excelling in capturing strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, drums, and both acoustic and electric guitars.
United has taken this classic-specification design to the next level with component-level attention to detail, as well as including a switchable Air modification preferred by many classic recordists.
A custom United UT K67 capsule.
The UT Tube67’s capsule is a custom-made, historically correct dual backplate/diaphragm capsule; skinned in a laboratory clean-room environment and 24k gold-sputtered on 6 micron Mylar. It has been optimized for the microphone’s operating voltage, and tuned to its ancestors’ specification, resulting in a smooth sound without the resonance that is found on most modern reproductions. The difference in comparison to other reproductions is unmistakable.
United based its design on a 1970s-made capsule that we found to be the best we had ever heard — providing a little more natural low to low-mid range frequency when compared to other specimens.
Custom United transformers.
The custom-wound, US-made, UT-BV12 transformer is wound to our own specifications and set to the same laminations historically used on the original. Careful measurements were made from a golden specimen of the original transformer to ensure the UT Tube67 delivers the same legendary, tight bass response.
United used all high-nickel alloy laminations and employed a copper Faraday shield for reduced Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). While they could have used a smaller or less expensive transformer, United’s design team refuses to compromise.
It’s not just another mic — it’s a United.
The UT Tube67 is a personal homage to one of United's favorite classic mics that they felt has not gotten the proper respect it deserves. United has gone the extra mile to reduce noise and RFI, and to ensure that the UT Tube67 provides boutique-quality sound that’s built to last.
From the custom-made Sommer Octave 7-pin cable to the regulated power supply; to all final assembly and testing conducted in the USA at United’s base of operations, they have left no stone unturned in the pursuit of the highest level of audio quality. The UT Tube67 is an exceptional microphone to grab for almost any application.
