Midas, the leader of the industry since the sixties, was producing this top of the line mixing desk from 1990 until 2000. With only 1000 pieces made, the XL3 quickly became the dream of every front of house engineer.

Designed by engineers with decades of experience and built with the finest components, the XL3 delivers the most pristine and majestic sound out there. And the main reason for that, of course, is the famed channel strip!

Thirty years later our brilliant techs has breathed a new life into the this legendary product. With R8XL301 we have taken 8 original XL3 channel strips and carefully repackaged them into a 7 unit rack with a built-in power supply.

Now every sound engineer and producer has a chance to enjoy the unmatched quality of Midas preamps and EQ in their studio in a in a convenient 7 unit format. This unit consists of a preamplifier with 48v power supply and a pad, a 4 band parametric EQ, a high pass filter up to 400 Hz and a master output trim for each channel with an original LED VU.

All units from the new patch have A/B switch instead of Ground Lift. A/B switches between the inputs of the channel. A - XLR and B - TRS. That enables to have dual connections at all time fitted in and switched between them.

PAD switches between Mic and Line level.

All the modules are re-capped and fixed, all the issues removed.The power supply is linear. Toroid transformer -> Bridge rectifier -> LM317/LM337 adjustable regulation. Regulators are also tied together for safety, so if one power rail looses voltage, the second one follows. This is a very efficient and a good way to power up and power down cycles, removes bumps from audio and protects the IC-s. Phantom voltage is provided through LM317. All the regulator voltages are adjustable by trimpots.

THIS PACTH FEATURES A/B SWITCH BETWEEN XLR AND TRS INPUTS, INSERTS AND A GLOBAL PHANTOM POWER SWITCH IN THE BACK PANEL.

This is a B-Stock unit with some wear on rack ears and a few scratches on the top of the unit.

PSU is switchable between 110V and 230V, currently set to work on 230V. Fuse has to be changed for 110V operation. Make sure to check the power setting and fuse before powering up. EU power cord included.

All inputs and outputs are electronically balanced.

Attention! +48VDC Phantom power is applied to both XLR and TRS inputs simultaneously. Users are required to be cautious about this because normally TRS inputs have no Phantom available.

Insert is pre-equalizer.

Input gain for input A is +60dB to -15dB. XLR jack.

Input gain for input B is +30dB to -45dB. TRS jack.

Output trim attenuates the signal coming out from the channel.

LED meter displays the level post EQ and Pre output trim. -25dB to +12dB.

Ground LIFT button lifts the ground wire from the input connector.

Input and insert CMRR is set to -85dB @ 100Hz.

Equaliser provides +/-15dB with Treble, two Mid and Bass parameters. Two mid parameters are also equipped with width controls from 0.1 to 2 octave range.

Channel Output is built around the original XL3 direct output buffer.

Rear panel has master Phantom switch, that disables the +48V for all the channels coming from the PSU. +48V switch indicator LED is still active, but the voltage is not present on the inputs.

Power supply unit is built around 3 linear regulators and transformer. Outputs are adjusted to +48V; +17V; -17V. Adjustment is made with multiturn trim potentiometers inside the unit.

PSU outputs are tied together. This provides protection in case one supply voltage fails, the other will be dragged down. This mechanism also removes the annoying Pop-noise when turning off the unit and protects the op amps inside the channels from failures.
