The Telefunken / Neumann KM 56 Miniature Multipattern Tube Microphone is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone with multiple directional patterns (omni, cardioid, and figure-8).
It features a dual-sided, small diaphragm capsule skinned with nickel, as well as a tube amplifier circuit. The KM 56 is excellent for all-around applications, delivering a bright and clear sound on pianos, overheads, guitars, rooms, strings, and more. It is perfect for capturing a wide range of audio sources with warmth and detail.
This piece is Telefunken branded and not in good usable condition.
Output is ~6dB lower and noise higher than it should be, without a clearly identifiable cause. The mic has undergone some non standard soldering and repair before, maybe its insulation parts are worn out.
The previous AC701 now is back in place, but the mic will be good for louder sources only.
Its capsule #1770 is reskinned by Drefahl on December 2025 and performs well. The grille was dented and lacked electrical shielding has now been refurbished.
Includes the original box. Good mic for project person capable of fixing vintage mics.
Serial No: #302
