The Earthworks QTC40 is an omnidirectional condenser microphone designed to capture sound with exceptional realism, speed and accuracy. Built for engineers who want a clean and truthful picture of the source, the QTC40 is ideal for acoustic instruments, vocals, strings, ensembles, orchestras, choirs and other sources where detail and natural balance are essential.
Its omnidirectional polar pattern remains consistent across the specified frequency range, allowing the microphone to capture sound evenly from all around the capsule. This makes the QTC40 especially useful for room capture, distant microphone techniques and detailed acoustic recording, where the space around the source is just as important as the source itself.
With an extended 3 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response, the QTC40 delivers a ruler-flat, uncoloured sound with excellent transient accuracy. Its time-coherent performance helps preserve the relationship between low and high frequencies, keeping attacks clean, imaging stable and the recording natural.
The QTC40 also offers plenty of practical headroom, handling sound pressure levels up to 142 dB. With no proximity effect, it can be placed close to instruments without adding unwanted low-end build-up, making it equally useful on quieter sources, drum overheads, close-miked wind and percussion instruments, foley, and detailed field recording applications.
