The EAG CA 001 is an exceptionally rare Hungarian tube vari-mu compressor with broadcast heritage. Originally built for demanding level-control applications, it delivers the kind of smooth gain reduction, rounded transients, and dense harmonic texture that only a real valve vari-mu design can offer.
It is an AEG/Teleunken licensed, BEAG-built broadcast compressor from the 1960s, using classic tube vari-mu compression topology and an external power arrangement.
This is not a modern clinical compressor. The CA 001 is all about tone, weight, and character, making it a strong choice for vocals, bass, room mics, and mixbus duties where musical control matters more than hard-edged precision.
Please note: an external PSU is required for both CA 001 modules. Required PSU outputs: +250V, -105V, AC 6.3V.
The tubes have been tested, weak or incorrect valves replaced where needed, and stuck tuning potentiometers renewed in both modules. Final calibration should be carried out by the new owner to match the intended operating level and application.
