format_quote Ampex 601 is a modified two channel mic pre amp initially developed for an Ampex tape machine that was in production in the 1950's and 1960's and earned Ampex its fame and brand recognition, which is now almost synonymous to tape.
The preamp is open and clear, but you can easily push it into a beautiful distortion. Mic level only, no phantom power supply or DI.
This preamp is a size of a 3U rack and comes with a power supply unit that is about the same size.
The unit works on 110V and has a built in US plug.
